some tidbits of my life
The food I am inspired to create is largely influenced by memories, seasonality, nostalgia and all of the feelings they stir up. I often think of the recipes here like a snapshot in time, from being with my family and friends, or from my experiences working in restaurants.
I am a graduate of The Culinary Institute of America's culinary arts program and have a bachelor's in applied food studies from there as well. For me, the best way to learn about people, places, and things is through food, and I never want to stop learning.
I tend to cook with organic ingredients, I love a farmer's market, a health food store, and whole grain flours. I think food and ethics go hand in hand and try to make good choices.
I live in upstate NY with my partner, Ryan, and our dog, Brutus. Food is the first thing on my mind when I wake up in the morning and the last thing on my mind when I go to sleep at night. In between it occupies my thoughts as well, and I often dream about it too.
I keep a lot of ever evolving lists: dishes to make, groceries to use, groceries to buy, notes to self, recipes to try, and so on. If it weren't for list making, I would never get anything done.
What I love about cooking is that, for me, it is a bridge between the emotional and the physical. I appreciate being able to make food that can transport me to another place in my life and bring back old memories while at the same time making new ones. I find it deeply satisfying to engage all of my senses in the process of cooking as well.
